SpySeek as a phishing link checker for iPhone

SpySeek is an iPhone app for checking suspicious links. It helps you assess unknown or risky URLs before you open them.

It is built for phishing links, scam links, fake websites, risky domains, suspicious QR codes, and optional URL, hash, and file checks with VirusTotal.

Easy Mode

For anyone who wants to check a link quickly and get a clear, understandable result without technical overload.

Expert Mode

For IT, security, and power users. Includes DNS checks, domain age, threat feed hits, heuristics, and technical risk scoring.

VirusTotal

Optional VirusTotal area for users with their own API key. URL, hash, and file checks with more context and added threat intelligence.

Check suspicious links in multiple ways

  • - Paste a link directly
  • - Scan a QR code
  • - Detect a link from a screenshot
  • - Share a link from another app
  • - Calculate a file hash locally
  • - Optionally scan files with VirusTotal

Built with privacy in mind

SpySeek was built so that as much as possible happens locally on the device. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics SDKs, and no tracking.

Local checks run first on the iPhone. For online checks, only the data technically required by the respective security source is transmitted, such as hostname, domain, or the exact URL.

Multiple security sources, one clear result

SpySeek combines local analysis with public security sources such as heuristics, RDAP/WHOIS, Phishing.Database, BlockListProject, Maltrail, PhishDestroy, and the MyEtherWallet URL Darklist.

VirusTotal is optional and only used when you add your own API key. This keeps the app privacy-first and flexible.

Frequently asked questions about SpySeek

How does SpySeek help with phishing links?

SpySeek analyzes suspicious URLs locally on the iPhone and enriches the result with public security sources. This helps you identify phishing links, scam links, and risky websites faster.

Can I use SpySeek to check QR codes?

Yes. SpySeek supports QR scanning, screenshot detection, and shared links from other apps, so you can assess suspicious targets before opening them.

Does SpySeek use VirusTotal?

VirusTotal is optional. The VT area is only active when you add your own API key. The core app remains privacy-first and works without VirusTotal.

Is SpySeek a privacy-first security app?

Yes. SpySeek puts local checks first, avoids unnecessary tracking, and does not require a user account. That makes it a strong fit for users who care about both security and privacy.

Important notice

SpySeek is an informational and decision-support tool. The app cannot guarantee that every threat, scam attempt, redirect, malicious file, or fake website will be detected.

Scan results may be incomplete due to unavailable services, outdated feeds, limits from external providers, or later changes to websites and files. You remain responsible for decisions when opening links, visiting websites, downloading files, or sharing information.

Privacy policy

SpySeek - Privacy-first link safety scanner

This privacy policy explains which data the app accesses, why this happens, and how that data is handled.

1. Overview

SpySeek was built with a privacy-first approach. Security tools should protect users, not monitor them.

SpySeek helps assess suspicious links, hashes, and files, but it does not guarantee detection of every threat, every scam, every phishing page, or every malicious file.

2. Important notice and limitation of liability

SpySeek is an informational security tool. There is no assurance or guarantee that every phishing attack, malicious redirect, harmful file, or fake website will be detected.

Assessments may be limited by unavailable services, outdated public lists, incomplete data, network errors, VirusTotal limits, or later changes to websites, links, and files.

To the extent permitted by law, SpySeek is provided without warranty regarding completeness, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. No liability is assumed for direct or indirect damage, losses, or decisions resulting from use of the app or its scan results.

3. Data we access

  • URLs you enter, paste, share, scan via QR code, or extract from screenshots
  • Clipboard access only when Clipboard Suggestions is enabled
  • Local settings such as Easy Mode and Expert Mode
  • Optional VirusTotal API key stored in the iOS Keychain
  • Optional file, hash, or URL for VirusTotal only after active user action

SpySeek does not access names, email addresses, contacts, advertising IDs, or analytics profiles.

4. On-device processing

The heuristic engine runs locally on the device. This includes URL structure checks, keyword detection, obfuscation patterns, and other local risk signals.

QR analysis and screenshot detection also run locally on the iPhone.

5. Online lookups and third-party services

For certain security checks, SpySeek uses public or optional third-party sources. Only the data technically required for the respective check is transmitted, for example hostname, domain, URL, hash, or file.

These include RDAP/WHOIS, Phishing.Database, BlockListProject, PhishDestroy, Maltrail, the MyEtherWallet URL Darklist, and optionally VirusTotal.

VirusTotal remains optional and only becomes active when the user adds their own API key. If you select a file in the VT area, SpySeek first calculates the MD5 hash locally and shows it before upload.

6. Clipboard access

Clipboard Suggestions are disabled by default. If you enable them, SpySeek checks locally whether copied content looks like a link and can suggest a scan.

7. Share Extension and screenshot detection

If you use the Share Extension, SpySeek only receives the content that you intentionally share from another app.

If you choose a screenshot for link detection, the image is not uploaded to us.

8. Scan history

SpySeek stores recent scan results locally on the device. This data is not transmitted to us.

9. No advertising, no analytics, no tracking

  • No advertising SDKs
  • No analytics SDKs
  • No tracking SDKs
  • No user accounts
  • No social logins

10. Children's privacy

SpySeek does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app contains no ads and no accounts.

11. Changes to this privacy policy

If app features change, this privacy policy may be updated. The current version will always remain available on this page.
